December 2, 2011 - Today marks the first day you must make changes in your calculations for the hospice Medicare benefit periods due to the fact that 2012 is a leap year.

In a leap year, which occurs every four years, there is an extra day in February for a total of 366 days in the calendar year. This impacts the following benefit periods:
- 90 day periods starting December 2, 2011, through January and February 29, 2012
- 60 day benefit periods which begin on December 30 and 31, 2011, through February 29, 2012
